The Healthy Aging Partnerhsip's (HAP) Aging at Home Initiative can help your community! Please encourage teams of 2-5 older adults in your community to participate by attending a free one-day Aging at Home workshop.
Participants will learn about Aging at Home from experts in the areas of healthy living, emergency preparedness, lifelong learning, and civic engagement/volunteerism. Workshop participants will also learn about grant funding available for teams of older adults that want to make Aging at Home a reality in their own communities. After the workshop, teams of older adults will have the an opportunity to apply for up to $5,000 to implement an Aging at Home project that meets their community's needs.

- Walk N Roll 2010 - Sounds Steps End of Summer Funwalk

The Fifth Annual “end of summer” Sound Steps funwalk at Seward Park will feature music, games, snacks and prizes, all especially for adults age 50+. Walkers can choose to walk 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 or 2.5 miles around the Seward Park loop. Suggested donation of $1 - $20 helps support the Sound Steps monthly hiking program, and programs at the Southeast Senior Center. Receive a pair of quality walking socks with your donation of $5 or more! Register by September 8 to ensure your walking socks; day-of-event registration also accepted.

A new conference series in Creating Aging-Friendly Communities called ''Environmental & Policy Change for Healthy Aging'' is being offered by the CDC Healthy Aging Research Network. Participate right from your computer to access online presentations, webinars, and resources.

This initiative aims to build capacity for change and offers a variety of opportunities for learning, sharing, and networking. Every module begins with a pre-recorded presentation that introduces key concepts for the module topic. This presentation is followed in two weeks by an interactive webinar. Two days following the webinar, the module offers a moderated online conversation.

Research studies have demonstrated that PEARLS is effective at reducing depression symptoms and improving the quality of life for individuals. An evidence-based behavioral treatment program, the PEARLS training focuses on two client populations: older adults and individuals with epilepsy.

- Legislative Forum: "Mocktail" Happy Hour

- The Advisory Council on Aging and Disability Services and South King County Senior Center Directors will host a legislative “mocktail” happy hour. We are inviting several area legislators and other local politicians.
There will be time to mingle, plus some presentations on the Senior Citizens Services Act and Q&A time with legislators. Fun “mocktails” will be served, along with finger food.
