This presentation traces the history of the Sand Point Peninsula in NE Seattle from early Duwamish Indian days to present. Historic photos will show the important events that took place at Sand Point, like the Seattle’s first airport and overnight camp site, 1st Around-the-World Flight in 1924, Charles Lindberg’s landing in 1927, the large WPA project that added runways and buildings in the late 1930’s, the impact of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and current park use and landmark designation in 2011.

Presenter Lynn Ferguson is a neighborhood advocate for the “Great Urban Park” envisioned by Warren G. Magnuson in the early 1970’s. She is president of Friends of Sand Point Magnuson Park Historic District, and a member of Magnuson Park Advisory Council and Community Center Advisory Council. Lynn is the recipient of Park’s Denny Award, Audubon’s Conservation Award, and Historic Seattle’s Neighborhood Advocacy Award.
