Image of flyer listing Memory Sabbath and Memory Sunday participating congregations in SeattleMemory Sunday—the second Sunday in June—is a designated Sunday during which congregations serving African Americans provides education on Alzheimer’s: prevention, treatment, research studies, and caregiving.

Memory Sunday brings national and local attention to the tremendous burden that Alzheimer’s and other dementias have on the African American community; to utilize the power and influence of the African American pulpit to bring awareness; to distribute the facts about Alzheimer’s; to encourage participation in research studies and to support persons living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.

The National Brain Health Center for African Americans offers a Memory Sunday Toolkit and other resources for African American congregations on this website. For information about Memory Sunday activities in local churches, or to get involved, contact Karen Winston, Aging and Disability Services, at karen.winston@seattle.gov.
